Below is an overview of the withdrawal and refund process through the Naming Services Portal (NSp).
Step 1: Application Withdrawal
Application withdrawal of a New gTLD application may be submitted by the Application Primary Contact only.
To request an application withdrawal, please:
- Log into NSp via your applicant account.
- Submit a General Inquiry ticket with the title: "Application Withdrawal Request," specifying the application you wish to withdraw. Within three (3) days, ICANN will acknowledge your request and provide a withdrawal form.
- Please fully complete and submit the withdrawal form as an attachment to the case.

In certain cases, refunds of a portion of the evaluation fee may be available for applications that are withdrawn before the evaluation process is complete. An applicant may withdraw its application at any time until it has executed a registry agreement with ICANN. The amount of refund will depend on the point in the process at which the withdrawal is requested. Please refer to section 1.5.1 of the Applicant Guidebook for a schedule of refunds.
Refunds will only be issued to the organization that submitted the original payment. To update beneficiary and/or banking information for the refund, please contact ICANN Global Support (firstname.lastname@example.org) for further assistance.
All refunds are to be paid by wire transfer. Any bank transfer or transaction fees incurred by ICANN will be deducted from the refund amount.
This process may take between 2-4 weeks to complete.
